Drones have been successfully integrated into surveying workflows to perform land surveys, photogrammetry, 3D mapping, topographic surveying, and more. When surveying challenging terrain, drones make it no longer necessary for human operators to physically access and measure points in hazardous or difficult-to-reach locations.
Before adopting drones into workflows, many surveyors ask about aerial surveying accuracy. What degree of accuracy can drone surveying techniques achieve?
DHA Surveying drone solutions can produce surveys with different degrees of accuracy, depending on the requirements of the project. DHA Use drones to capture data in amongst some word locations even mapping solar farms and flare stacks. DHA has also used the technology to do multispectral over potato farms and more.
Using ground control the DJI Drone M300 with RTK achieved 2 cm relative vertical accuracy and 1.20 cm relative horizontal accuracy. To ensure we meet the right CM accuracy we use dedicated surveyors to map out the ground points. We are drone pilots and we have found that the results are better when we use our team of surveyors and not try and DIY like most drone pilots.
Applications, like checking crop growth, or construction progress, high relative accuracy is sufficient. For other jobs that also require high absolute accuracy, there are drones equipped with real-time kinematics (RTK) and post-processing kinematics (PPK) capabilities. When paired with a few GCPs, survey-level accuracy can be achieved.
Survey drones generate high-resolution data and detailed 3D models of areas where low-quality, outdated or even no data, are available. High-accuracy 2d and 3d maps to be produced quickly and easily. Aerial images taken by drones greatly accelerate and simplify topographic surveys for land management and planning. These images also provide the foundation for detailed models of site topography for engineering studies. The generated data can also be transferred to any CAD software so that engineers can immediately start working from a 3D model. With 3D mapping software, it is also possible to obtain Volumetric/Stockpile measurements from the very same images. This fast and inexpensive method of volume measurement is particularly useful to calculate stocks in mines and quarries for inventory or monitoring purposes.

We do all 2d /3d mapping inhouse on state of the art computers and software designed for mapping. We can minimise the costs because we don’t outsource on most projects. We do however recommend Trendspek for Asset data and collection because the cloud-based software is great for inter-office collaboration
